ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MOIT&T), on Wednesday, initiated a “Smart Village” project in four provinces and the capital through Universal Service Fund (USF).
The ceremony was inaugurated by Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque.
Federal Secretary for IT and Telecommunication Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Area Representative for Southeast Asia International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Dr. Ismail Shah, CEO USF Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, and CEO Huawei Mark Meng were in attendance.
In the beginning, one Smart Village project will be launched in each province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad.
As per sources, the project will be sponsored and technically assisted by the International Telecommunication Union and Huawei Technologies Pakistan.
According to the plan, a centre will be established with modern facilities where people will be trained to have knowledge of know-how of the facilities. The people will be encouraged to utilise the facilities in everyday life.
